Possum Products

Lothlorian possum wool products are soft, luxurious and warm. They are made in New Zealand from 50% fine Merino lambswool, 10% nylon and 40% possum fur.

New Zealand has an estimated 70 million brushtail opossums, eating 21,000 tonnes of vegetation every night. They are breeding at a rate of 20 million each year and are New Zealand's ecological nightmare, killing trees by ringbarking and removal of leaves.

Only two natural materials are known for the property of being able to be placed in sub-zero climates without freezing. Polar bear fur and opossum fur alone refuse to become frozen. They both have a unique hollow hair follicle that entraps heat. Opossum fur uniquely does not generate static electricity caused by movement, and has a similar micron rating to fine merino wool, creating a luxurious blend of these two fibres.
